该剧讲述1918年毛泽东从湖南第一师范毕业到1921年参加党的一大所历经的心路历程。这期间中国发生了巨大的变化，新文化运动掀起西学东渐的风潮，马克思主义的曙光第一次照进中国，五四运动高举起自由与民主的旗帜，军阀混战的硝烟加重了中国人民的苦难……在这风云际会的历史舞台上，各方势力风起云涌，诡异的时局迷雾重重，国家和民族的命运如同萧瑟寒风中的一叶扁舟，生死存亡只在一瞬。这几年间，毛泽东在国家民族危难之际，胸怀大志、坚韧不拔寻找救国救民道路，从一个青年学子逐渐成长为坚定的马克思主义者。该剧通过毛泽东北上寻求真理、组织青年学生赴法勤工俭学、领导湖南驱张运动、创办《湘江评论》、开展学运工运、组建湖南共产主义小组等事件，记述了毛泽东如何在纷繁杂乱的众多主义中寻找到马克思主义并为之奋斗一生的感人故事。收起
