剧情：
以武侠片的形式描述中国近代史中悲壮的一页，非一般仇杀内容的同类电影可比。杨凡、狄龙、赵长军分饰清末三名重要人物：大刀王五、谭嗣同、袁世凯。三人一齐上京成立“强武学会"，希望在民间培养一批有志之士重振国运。由于声势日壮，奕亲王趁机拉拢王五，造成谭、袁二人因立场不同而产生矛盾。袁后来更倒戈相向，令谭被困狱中。王五欲拚命相救，遭谭拒绝，坚持以身殉国。于是王五重拾昔日大刀，直闯袁宅行刺。洪金宝的导演技巧稳重而扎实，颇能从三位主角之间的矛盾关系突显人物个性。关芝琳饰演奕亲王妃子，与王五之间有一段令人唏嘘的情缘。看了李敖的小说《法源车》再看本片，感受会更深。收起
